Master of Education in Reading and Literacy
Literacy expectations will accelerate dramatically in the coming decades. To participate fully in society, citizens will need powerful literacy abilities that include a wide range of technological competencies. Schools must assume an expanded definition of literacy that includes not only the traditional creation and comprehension of printed texts but technological representations as well. Students must learn to use a variety of technological and informational resources to gather and synthesize information and to create and communicate knowledge. This 15 month program is extremely convenient for working adults meeting just one night a week - and will result in a Master of Education degree, which can be used to obtain a Reading Specialist Certificate. In summary, the growth/learning elements emphasized in this program are: Reading/Literacy Processes, Performance-Based Assessment, Technology Integration, Inquiry and Diversity.
